The Valhalla

•The RI.Perspective
Set within the alpine landscape of the Kootenays in British Columbia, The Valhalla Retreat unfolds as an experience in which yoga and high-altitude exploration do not simply sit side by side, but belong to the same physical inquiry. The practice meets effort, endurance, and adaptation, finding in its surroundings an active part of the overall design.
It is here that Emily Ruth’s vision shapes this retreat. Awakening Yoga sessions, restorative evening practices, and days of trekking toward alpine lakes and untouched peaks follow a coherent rhythm, held together by an approach that integrates nervous system awareness, quality of movement, and principles of biomechanics. The work develops within real conditions, where listening and precision remain central even in the more physically demanding dimension of the experience.
The presence of a certified alpine guide makes deeper exploration possible, allowing access beyond the more frequented trails. The backcountry lodge, intimate and secluded, extends the same logic, holding the retreat within an essential atmosphere that continues beyond the guided moments. Within this balance, the vegetarian cuisine also finds its place, conceived not as an accessory detail but as part of a functional system that supports physical effort in a simple and measured way.
Rather than offering a pause, The Valhalla Retreat brings the body back to the centre, as the place from which to regain orientation, presence, listening, and regeneration through a direct relationship with movement and the mountain environment.
